Although Gilbert Keith Chesterton never came to pubnight, having died before it started, you can't help feeling he would have approved.

Amongst his writing is much in favour of pubs, and pubby things, in particular poems such as his Ballard of an Anti-Puritan.  Nick has a particular fondness as well for The Saracen's Head - which used to be a favourite pub of his in Wigan until it was demolished to avoid taking 3 inches off the Labour Club gardens when building a ring road.   The Saracen's Head comes from one of his most entertaining - not to say bonkers - books (which is saying quite a lot really) - The Flying Inn.

While researching this page, I was delighted to discover an enthusiastic and persuasive introduction to Chesterton by the great Dave Langford.
